Outdoor Autumn Adventures: Nature Walks, Crafts and Family Fun

Autumn is a magical season for children. Crunching through leaves, spotting conkers, and noticing the colours change is an adventure in itself. With a few simple ideas, you can turn a family walk into a creative day out.

Here are three easy outdoor activities and crafts to try this October.

1) Leaf Scavenger Hunt

You will need
• A basket or paper bag
• A printed sheet or handwritten list of leaves to find
• Crayons and paper (optional)

Steps

  1. Make a list of autumn treasures: red leaf, yellow leaf, pine cone, conker, feather.

  2. Head out to a local park or woodland. Give each child a bag to collect items.

  3. Tick them off as you go. Younger children can just collect whatever they find interesting.

  4. Back at home, use crayons to make leaf rubbings by placing paper over leaves and colouring lightly on top.

2) Nature Crowns

You will need
• A strip of card long enough to fit around your child’s head
• Glue or sticky tape
• Collected leaves, feathers, and flowers

Steps

  1. After your walk, lay out the nature treasures you have gathered.

  2. Wrap the strip of card around your child’s head, cut to size, and tape to make a circle.

  3. Glue or tape the leaves, feathers, and flowers onto the crown.

  4. Once dry, children can wear their nature crown proudly.

3) Conker Creatures

You will need
• Conkers
• Cocktail sticks or toothpicks
• Felt tip pens
• Glue and googly eyes (optional)

Steps

  1. Gather conkers during your autumn walk. Choose ones without cracks.

  2. Carefully push cocktail sticks into the conkers to make legs. Younger children may need help with this step.

  3. Add eyes with a pen, or glue on googly eyes for fun.

  4. Create spiders, beetles, or even make a whole conker family.

Why we love autumn at SuperCamps
