What age does my child need to be for RAW Adventure Camps?
RAW Adventure Camps accepts children aged 8-14 inclusive.
The camp is held at a single sex school, is it still for boys and girls?
Yes, all RAW Adventure Camps are for boys and girls.
RAW is designed to immerse children in the outdoors, but children need no prior experience of outdoor activities or skills. The programme is specifically designed to encourage children to develop throughout the week.
RAW staff will never ask children to do something they don’t feel comfortable doing, but please be aware this is an outdoors course, so we will be outside and back-to-basics even if is raining. See the kit list for advice on what to bring to camp.
My child went to RAW last year – won’t it be the same?
We have designed a whole new programme to ensure that returning children get an even better experience than they got last year. They will still get to do their favourite activities, like shelter building and fire-lighting, but the programme has progressed and we will be pioneering with new skills and activities! We feel it is important to keep developing the programme, for staff and children alike. Learn more about this year's programme
I want to book Easter and Summer – won’t the camp just be the same?
Whilst the programme will remain the same for both Easter and Summer, the unique way the programme is designed means that the children will get a different experience every time they attend. Each element incorporates choice and creativity, meaning they can focus on a different skill or project each time they attend. The more proficient they become with the outdoor skills, the more opportunity they have to experiment with bigger and better projects. Plus of course, they’ll be forming a team with a different group of children, and making new friends!
- RAW Adventure Camps run for one week at a time during the Easter and summer holidays.
- Core programme times: 9:20AM – 4:30.
- Please ensure your children are dropped off by 9.20am at the latest so they have time to get settled before the programme starts for the day.
- We offer free drop-off and pick-up times around the core hours (9:00am – 9.20am and 4:30pm – 5:00pm) to give you time to get to us and sign your children in and out in the morning and afternoon.
- From 8am – 9am and 5pm – 6pm we offer parents a late care option for a payment of £25 per 5 day week (£20 for Easter) if you would like to drop off earlier or pick-up a little later.

- You sign your child/ren in when you drop them off
- Staff will show you where to leave bags
- You can talk to the leaders about what your children will be doing.
- Sign them out at the end of the day.
- We assume that whoever signs a child in will also be the person collecting them in the afternoon. If this is not the case, please tell out staff at sign in so we can arrange a password for the person collecting to use.
- If your plans change during the day, please call your RAW Camp Manager’s mobile number (provided on your first day at camp) to let the staff know who will be collecting the child on your behalf.
- In addition, please let us know in advance if you would like to collect your child early, so the RAW Camp Manager can have your child and their belongings ready for when you arrive.
Children will be grouped by their age – the exact age range in each group depends on the number of children on camp.
Can I ask for my child to be in the same group as their friend?
Yes, provided your child is of a similar age. Simply provide your friend's name when you book your child's place, or contact our Customer service team on 01235 832222

- Yes, Children should bring a healthy, balanced packed lunch and extra snacks for breaks and for drop-off/pick-up and late care periods.
- Please provide ice packs during hot weather, as we are unable to provide refrigeration facilities.
- We recommend that children bring a refillable drinks flask or water bottle to take to activities with them.

Will my child need a swimming kit?
No. – Swimming is not part of the RAW Adventure Programme.
We ask you to ensure that children have had their first application of sun cream in the morning, and then send them with sun cream – we will then remind and assist them in reapplying it during the day unless you advise us otherwise.
What should my child NOT bring?
Money, mobile phones and any other valuables – we cannot be held responsible if items go missing, nor compensate for them and we hate to see children disappointed.
What if my child loses something?
We try to return lost property when possible, but in order to do this we ask that all belongings are clearly named.
How many staff will supervise the children on camp?
We aim for a ratio of 1 staff member to 10 children, with teams having 1 or 2 Leaders leading depending on the activity.
What experience do RAW Adventure Camps staff have?
All staff at RAW Adventure camps are passionate about the outdoors. We hand pick all our RAW Adventure staff to make sure they have the appropriate qualifications and experience in childcare and the outdoors.
- Our RAW Managers will typically be teachers or outdoor educators.
- Our RAW Leaders will be working towards completing outdoor qualifications or schemes.
Do you have qualified First Aiders on camp?
Suitably qualified first aiders are employed at all of our camps.
What is the timetable for RAW Adventure Camps?
Please see the sample RAW Adventure Programme specific to your child's age group for full details of the RAW activity timetable.
Will my child choose the activities?
The programme is designed to be progressive and rewarding for each child, and is based on specific developmental goals. For this reason, the programme is set for the week, but all the activities are very much based on personal choices and creativity.
What happens if there is bad weather?
The RAW Programme continues to run even in poor weather, unless it makes the activities hazardous. If this happens, alternative activities will be done inside our large canvas tents.
Please make sure your children bring appropriate clothing for wet weather, even if the weather is fine at the start of the day. (see “What type of clothes does my child need to bring?”
My child has special needs – can they come to camp?
It is our policy not to exclude any child due to special needs, wherever possible. The needs of each child vary, so decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, depending on the level of support each individual child requires to enable them to fully participate in and enjoy activities at RAW Adventure Camps.
Parents of children with special needs should contact Head Office by telephoning 01235 832222 to discuss how RAW Adventure Camps can best accommodate their child, and consider whether any special arrangements need to be made.
English is not my child’s first language – is that okay?
We welcome children for whom English is not their first language. Children need to be able to communicate in basic English to attend RAW Adventure Camps. This is in their best interests to ensure their enjoyment and safety. For example, your child needs to understand the facilitators, let a member of staff know if something is wrong, understand emergency procedures, and be able to interact with other children on camp. We are happy to discuss this with you by phone if you are unsure.
What if my child is ill and unable to come to camp?
If you have not paid for the Illness Protection Scheme we regret that there are no refunds available.
If you opted to pay for the Illness Protection Scheme at the time of booking, you will receive a full refund minus the Illness Protection Scheme premium, when a doctor’s note is provided. Please see the details of the Illness Protection scheme below
What is the Illness Protection Scheme?
- For your peace of mind, our optional Illness Protection Scheme (an additional £1.50 per day) will protect your booking if your child is ill or injured.
- This would apply to ill health/injury either to the child or parent if it meant that the child was not able to attend.
- You will receive a full refund for all days missed, minus the IPS premium, on receipt of a doctor’s certificate.
- Cover excludes pre-existing medical conditions and claims relating to swine flu/influenza.
What will happen if my child falls ill on camp?
If your child is ill on the morning of camp, we regret that we are not able to take them on camp that day. If they fall ill during the course of the day, we will contact you and ask you to come and collect them, and we will make them as comfortable as possible in the meantime. In an emergency, medical advice or emergency treatment will also be sought unless you advise us that you do not want this to happen.
